No Easy Solution

My current ambitions are fairly basic; a roof over my head, a job with a steady income, and a little security.  Anything else really is a bonus.  Something in the back of my mind tells me I may well be involved in something more active and prominent towards the homeless cause in the future.  I am certainly not averse to the idea provided it is practical, viable and does actually offer a sustainable solution with a degree of equality.

Sadly, if the local authorities were to open the doors of one of the many empty buildings in the city, without any form of regulation or supervision it would quickly become little more than a public drug den.  I will not judge (as I have mentioned earlier) those with drug habits and addictions, but whilst under the narcotic influence these people have a tendency to vomit and go to the toilet wherever they happen to be sitting or lying.  They also have a tendency towards vandalism, either due to their fogged minds or because they have seen something of apparent value to help them afford their next hit.  Then there is the small matter of used sharps, paraphernalia (I have a literary soft spot for that word) and other detritus.  Think of OCD and then imagine the polar opposite and you will start to get a general idea.  Now add in healthcare needs and it gets more complex still.

One could, in theory, hand-pick the cleaner living homeless people knowing full well they would respect their surroundings and they just need that first step up the ladder to get off the streets, but those who need the most help are the ones beyond what I could give and are also the ones I feel it for the most.
