Round and Round

Here is a puzzler for all the logical and lateral thinkers; I have no phone and no phone number by which people can contact me.  I managed to appeal to the better nature of the staff at the library to get enough computer access today to send an email but I have no ID to join the library and use their computers on a regular basis and I cannot be a “guest user” on an ongoing basis either.  Tomorrow I might try the Job Centre under the guise of first using their computers for job searching.  I registered on a DWP system a long while ago in a different area so there is a faint possibility the system will let me in.  What I need are 2 things; one is some ID in order to keep a roof over my head and get a benefit claim moving, the other is my bank account details so that the benefits can be paid.  What would be even handier would be my bank card so that I would be able to access any funds.  I can’t go to the bank to get a new bank card because I have no ID to prove who I am and I have no proof of address.

Pretty much the only recognised establishment I am in contact with (and have any documentation from) is the town hall, and it is they who need me to produce some ID.  It is unlikely, therefore, that they will accept a letter from the town hall as required documentation, which leaves me with something of a vicious circle to escape from.  Surely I cannot be the first and only person to be in this predicament, and cannot help but feel I am overlooking something somewhere but I cannot for the life of me think what that might be.  In the meantime my daily calorie intake is somewhere very close to zero and I would dearly love some sustenance before my long walk back from town, even if it is just a cup of coffee.  I am not a fussy eater by any stretch of the imagination but I was far from alone in declining the curried something-green that was offered last night, which by all accounts was mostly bones and left a few people with dodgy stomachs this morning.  I shall wander round a few of the usual areas and see if anything is on offer.
